Mountain Creek Announces New Trail and Resort Improvements

Vernon, NJ – October 1, 2010
– Mountain Creek is proud to announce a brand new trail connecting South Peak with the base of Granite Peak, formerly connected by the 40-year-old Sojourn Double Chairlift which was retired early this fall.

The new intermediate trail will be 1 ¼ miles long, adding 12 more skiable acres to the resort’s total acreage. Initial clearing and cutting the trail has begun and resort management expects the trail to be skiable by winter 2011-2012.  Once complete, this addition will allow skiers and snowboarders to truly ride peak to peak all season long. This is the first new trail expansion at Mountain Creek in over a decade. “We are extremely excited to enhance our guests’ skiing and riding experience with the addition of this new terrain,” says Bill Benneyan, COO, VP Sales & Marketing.

Other resort improvements include top-to-bottom grade work on Horizon, the resort’s most popular trail on Vernon Peak. These changes will provide for more efficient snow coverage on that trail, which will allow for more terrain to open faster in the season.

At Mountain Creek South, freeskiers and snowboarders can look forward to new park designs, at least twenty-five new features and the return of a 13-foot half pipe.

Based on its diverse freestyle clientele, the size of the half pipe will lend itself to a fun experience for everyone. The pipe will be strategically placed on Bear Peak to best utilize the mountain’s powerful snowmaking capabilities and lighting. The pipe’s placement will also coincide with the sun’s natural path to ensure both pipe walls are affected evenly.

Known for its events and competitions, Mountain Creek is investing in several improvements to its on-snow event space in the Bear Base Area, which has been rebranded as The Arena. New for this year, The Arena will be equipped with stadium quality lighting and sound system. The Arena will also be re-graded allowing for optimum snow coverage as well as more creative, unique and challenging contest setups.
