Racing Programs
Ever wonder how ski racing stars like Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller got their starts in the sport of ski racing? The answer is they started at their local mountain’s race program just like we have at Mountain Creek. Our program offers skill development, race training/coaching and ski racing on a variety of the mountains best trails.
Early Development Programs
Our youngest racers start as early as age 5 in our SUPERSTARS program. Their main focus is on fun exploration of all that the mountain has to offer in a group setting with coaches to lead the way (and follow behind). Here learning the fundamentals of good skiing is the goal. Making great friends and developing a love for the sport of skiing are the usual result.
Slightly older and and/or more advanced racers join the Youth Ski League (YSL). Learning fundamental skiing skills helps to develop the basics that a child needs to become not only a good skier but a good ski racer. Lots of fun is still the primary goal with an additional focus on learning how to carve turns through a race course. Several fun races over the course of the season let our racers feel the first thrills of competition and are always a hit!
Competition Focused Programs
As a racer grows In both age and ability, the chance to train and race in a more competitive environment is offered through our USSA (United Sates Ski Association) race training program. Racers aged 7 and up routinely train with our certified coaches to learn the skills needed to compete in ski racing events like slalom, giant slalom, super G and even downhill.
Racers have the opportunity to compete at Mountain Creek races as well as other local mountains in USSA sanctioned competition events. Some racers even travel to competitions throughout the New England area.
Although not required, most race families join the Skylands Ski Club. Membership in this ski club offers additional support in a very social environment. Often families will get to know and spend time with eachother both on and off the mountain. There is a ton of information and support about what's needed to be successful in ski racing through the club.
Membership in Skylands Ski Club truly enhances the family experience.
In order to compete in sanctioned ski races in New Jersey, racers need
to become members of both NJSRA (New Jersey Ski Racing Association) and the
USSA (United States Ski Association). For
